What can happen when I Vaal an Imprisoned Essence?

A Vaal Orb on an Imprisoned monster can upgrade, downgrade, change the Essence type, or instantly release the monster. Be ready to fight before you click — Harmonic Corruption only adds more corrupt rolls; it does not remove the instant-release outcome.

Why does Perfect Essence care whether the mod is a prefix or suffix?

Perfect Essences remove a random modifier, then add a guaranteed one. If the Perfect mod is a suffix and the item’s suffixes are full, it is forced to remove a suffix (and the same for prefixes). Craft one half of the item first, then finish the other half with Perfects so the remove lands on the side you want.

How do I get Corrupted Essences?

Use a Vaal Orb on a Perfect Essence you find in maps. Corrupted Essences also remove a random mod then add a guaranteed one — track prefix vs suffix the same way as Perfects. Atlas Harmonic Corruption / Corrupted Lattices juice Imprisoned corruption; they are not a substitute for Vaaling Perfects in your stash.

How do I get Essence of the Abyss on this farm?

Essence of the Abyss comes from Essences that intersect Abysses in your maps. Shadow of Undeath raises the chance Essences (and Rogue Exiles) are influenced by Abysses — it is not pit coverage. Path Abyss tablets / Atlas if you want that layer; do not take Shadow of Undeath expecting more Abyss pits.
